Your child's safety — built in, not bolted on

PrepWise is built by parents. Every feature passes one test: would we be comfortable with our own children using it?

How we protect your child

PrepWise is a pure revision tool. There are no social features, no messaging, and no way for students to interact with each other.

  • No direct messages or chat between students
  • No public profiles or personal information shared
  • No image or file uploads
  • No leaderboards or competitive ranking between students
  • Text-only educational content reviewed by qualified educators

Parent account required

PrepWise uses a parent-first architecture. Students need a parent to create an account and share an invite code. This means:

  • Parents give informed consent before their child uses the platform
  • Every student account is linked to a verified parent
  • Students without a linked parent get a 5-day trial, then must connect

What parents can see

When you log in as a parent, you see a dashboard showing your child's revision progress. Here's exactly what's visible:

  • Subject mastery levels (9-level system from Starter to Master)
  • Quiz accuracy and topic coverage per subject
  • Day streak, XP total, and overall on-track status
  • Last study activity date
  • Multiple children on one parent dashboard (family view)

What we don't do

  • We never sell student data to anyone
  • No advertising of any kind in the app
  • No third-party tracking or analytics on student activity
  • No sharing of individual student data with schools or third parties
  • No dark patterns, addictive mechanics, or infinite scroll

UK data protection compliance

PrepWise is designed to comply with UK data protection requirements for children's services:

  • UK GDPR — Parental consent obtained via the invite code system. Minimal data collection (only what's needed for revision progress).
  • ICO Children's Code — Age-appropriate design with privacy settings defaulting to the highest protection level.
  • Online Safety Act 2023 — No user-to-user communication features that could expose children to harmful content.
  • Data stored in the UK/EU — Student data is held on Firebase (Google Cloud) servers in the London region.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 March 2026

PrepWise ("we", "us", "our") operates the PrepWise GCSE revision application available at app.prepwise.uk and via the iOS App Store. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.

What we collect

  • Account information — Display name and email address from Google Sign-In. We do not store passwords.
  • Study progress — Quiz scores, flashcard reviews, topic mastery levels, XP, streaks, and daily session completions.
  • Student configuration — Selected subjects, exam board, exam dates, and study preferences.
  • Family links — Parent-student relationships created via activation codes or invite codes.

How we store it

All data is stored on Google Firebase (Firestore database and Firebase Authentication), hosted on Google Cloud servers. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We do not maintain our own servers.

Third-party services

  • Firebase Authentication (Google) — Handles sign-in. Firebase Privacy
  • Cloud Firestore (Google) — Stores study progress and configuration data.
  • Vercel — Hosts the web application. Does not store user data.

We do not use any advertising SDKs, analytics trackers, or data brokers. We do not share individual student data with schools, exam boards, or any third party.

Children's privacy

PrepWise is designed for students aged 14–16 (GCSE Year 10–11). We follow the ICO Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code). Privacy settings default to the highest protection level. Parental consent is obtained through the activation code and invite code system before a student can create a permanent account.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access — Request a copy of all data we hold about you or your child
  • Deletion — Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Correction — Update or correct inaccurate personal information
  • Portability — Receive your data in a machine-readable format

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@prepwise.uk. We will respond within 30 days.

Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion, all personal data and study progress is permanently removed within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregated statistics (e.g. "what percentage of students got question X correct") may be retained for content improvement.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via the app. The "last updated" date at the top of this section will always reflect the most recent version.
